AC Association Croquet

This Tournament is an informal one-day Association Croquet singles competition held at Watford. It is primarily for club members and is not in the CqE calendar, but there may be a few players invited from other nearby clubs in order to make the numbers up.

Title: Late Summer One-Day AC Tournament

Date: Wednesday 2 September
Allocation: Wednesday 5 August (only applicable if over capacity by then)
Entries: Non-members may be invited from 4 weeks before the tournament to make up numbers.
Manager: Simon Hathrell
Format: Four or five 14-point games in one Flexible Swiss block, all games played with a 100-minute time-limit.
Mixed game formats: Level Advanced, Handicap Advanced or simple Handicap, with the higher handicap player choosing in each game.

Notes:

  1. Play starts at 09:30, and entrants should expect to play until 6pm.
  2. Tea, soft drinks and biscuits are provided free of charge, but please bring your own lunch.
  3. Winner: the player with the highest percentage of wins from a minimum of 4 games. Tie-breakers, in order:
    1. Wins vs. those tied if they have all played each other, otherwise 'matchpoints' (see the CqE tournament regulations).
    2. Total points, including bonus points. Points are scored as follows:
      • The winner of the game scores the relevant number of handicap index points (ie 10 points if the game was played to Handicap or Handicap Advanced rules, or the appropriate number if the game was played to Level Advanced rules).
      • In addition, both players in the game score a bonus point for every part or full 5 minutes left on the clock when the game finishes.
    3. "Quality of wins" (i.e. number of wins scored by defeated opponents).
    4. Wins within time.
  4. There will also be a consolation prize for the player, other than the winner, with the largest number of points (including bonus points).
  5. Whites are optional (but the manager thinks they look nice).

The consolation prize went to André Machell who scored an impressive total of 80 points, including 46 bonus points for finishing his 5 games quickly (and winning 3 of them), ahead of David Robinson (63 points) and Gary Bennett (61 points).
